Why Listener Feedback Matters More Than Reviews

Enjoying the show? Support it here.

While podcast reviews can help with credibility, social proof, and showing potential listeners that people enjoy your podcast, I'd be paying just as much attention to listener feedback. And here's why.

Speaker:

I've been seeing a lot of questions lately about getting more podcast reviews.

Speaker:

Questions like, how do I get listeners to leave them? Should I ask at the start

Speaker:

of the episode? And what's the best way to get more reviews?

Speaker:

And I understand that because they help build credibility, social proof,

Speaker:

and showing potential listeners that people enjoy your podcast.

Speaker:

However, I'd be paying just as much attention, if not more, to listener feedback.

Speaker:

Because while reviews tell you that somebody likes your podcast, feedback tells you why.

Speaker:

For example, if a listener emails you to say they loved a particular episode,

Speaker:

or replies to your newsletter, or comments on a post about something you discussed,

Speaker:

that's giving you information you can actually use.

Speaker:

And you start to see which topics resonate, which episodes get people talking,

Speaker:

and what your audience wants more of.

Speaker:

That's a lot more valuable than a five-star review that simply says great podcast.

Speaker:

So sure, ask for reviews if they make sense for your show, but make sure you're

Speaker:

not missing out on the conversations happening around your content because while

Speaker:

reviews tell you people are listening, feedback helps you understand why they're coming back.

Speaker:

Until the next time, happy podcasting.
